

Michael Lee Shalter suddenly passed away on December 10, 2021 after battling cancer for more than a year. Mike was born on December 5, 1941 to the late Willis and Velma (Marriott) Shalter. He was born and raised in Continental, Ohio where he graduated from Continental High School. During high school, he met Caroline Louise Rickner, and they married in 1963. Mike and Carolyn moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1967, where he graduated from The Ohio State University. Mike worked for The United States Department of Agriculture in the Farm Service Agency and Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service, as well as for the State of Ohio Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency. After Mike retired, he enjoyed playing golf, cooking and being a grandfather to his only grandchild Lizzy. Mike was preceded in death by both of his parents, his wife, and several brothers in law and sisters in law. Mike is survived by his daughter Paige Shalter Bruening, her husband Andy Bruening, their daughter Lizzy, his brother in law Ramon Rickner, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A small service celebrating his life will be held on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST, 1740 Zollinger Road, Columbus, Ohio 43221. Family will receive friends immediately after the service until 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike's name to Pelotonia (rider Andy Bruening) and Lakeside Chautauqua's Society of Old Salts.
