

Mildred “Millie” Olive McClure Miller, age 101, of Columbus, OH, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter, Linda Jerome, on Feb. 13, 2016. Millie is survived by her daughter Linda; granddaughter Lisa (Baker) Thomas and Lisa’s husband Jeff Thomas; great-grandchildren Joshua Thomas and Lauryn Thomas; sister, Rose Marie McClure Tolleson, of Birmingham, AL; nieces Sharon Triplett, Libby Lindsey, Susan Mackey, and nephew Larry Payne, all also of AL; and long-time friend and caregiver Katherine Bell.
Born to Earl Cummings McClure and Demma Olive Chadwick McClure on Aug. 26, 1914 in Fort Gay, WV, Millie earned the nickname “fiddle” from her five siblings for her early musical ability. She spent the first part of her career as a dental assistant to her brother, Laban Theadore McClure, D.D.S., and to other prominent dentists in Huntington, WV. She later moved to Ohio, where she became the accountant for the Delaware Co. Health & Human Services Department. It was there she met her second husband, W. Dean Miller, then Delaware County Commissioner, who predeceased her in 2009. Millie is also predeceased by her parents; sisters, Bettye Baugus Shulman and Florence Payne; brothers Earnest and Laban McClure; first husband Clyde Forest Edwards; and dear friend and sister-in-law Mary Miller Hoerath Davis.
Known and cherished as “Nana” by many, she will be remembered for her abundant kindness and wisdom, generosity and great sense of humor, and love of children everywhere. A memorial service for Millie will be held at 11 a.m., Sat., March 19, at Maple Grove United Methodist Church, 7 W. Henderson Rd., Columbus.
