

Miriam Lovina (Miller) Zietlow, 92, went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 3, 2018, Labor Day, and is now resting eternally in Heaven from her earthly labors. She was born on May 5, 1926, to the late John Calvin and Lovina Ellen (Sudlow) Miller in Basil, OH. She graduated in 1944 from Pickerington High School, worked as a secretary during WWII at the Curtis Wright Army Depot, and received a B.S. in Ed. degree from Capital University in 1949. There she met the love of her life, Rev. Dr. Harold Zietlow, and they married on June 25, 1950, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Blue Island, IL. Miriam taught elementary school in Tinley Park, IL. She did graduate studies in education at The University of British Columbia, The University of Chicago, and The Ohio State University. After devoting many years to raising five children, she tutored young students and substitute taught in the Columbus area. Miriam was a major contributor to Harold's work in starting numerous mission churches, including Lutheran churches in Stoutsville and Tarlton, OH, during his years as professor at Lutheran Theological Seminary, Bexley, and at Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, IN. Miriam was a member of Concordia Lutheran Seminary Guild, Concordia Seminary Retired Faculty Wives, and president of Fort Wayne Lutheran Clergy Wives. In recent years Miriam resided at Wesley Glen Retirement Community where she was an active volunteer as a mentor for new residents, member of the Guild Nomination Committee and Methodist Elder Care member. She will always be warmly remembered for 61 years of devoted love to Harold, her sacrificial love toward her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and for her lifelong devotion to her Lord Jesus Christ whom she came to know and love since childhood.
She is survived by her five children, Dr. Paul Zietlow of Cedarburg, WI, Mark (Lynda) Zietlow of Holland, MI, Dr. John (Kathy) Zietlow of Bolivar, MO, Mary (Scott) Turner of Pickerington, and Ruth (Clay) Bogart of Columbus; by her twelve grandchildren, Tim (Kristin) Zietlow, Julie (Adam) Neubauer; Michelle (Rob) Harris, Lindsay (Bradley) White, Christy (Justin) Croley, David Zietlow, Brian Turner, Corrie (Joseph) Gladwell, Matthew (Leanne) Zietlow, Andrew Bogart, Betsie Bogart, and Anne Zietlow; and by her twelve great-grandchildren, Anna, Clara, Emily, Luke, Ellie, Miriam, Jacob, Levi, Jack, Judah, Caleb and Grayson. Miriam is preceded in death by her husband, Harold, brother Maynard (Wilma) Miller of Baltimore, OH, sister Alice Miller King of Howell, NJ, brother-in-law Herbert (Patty) Zietlow of Iola, WI. Surviving her are brother-in-law Gaylord (Joyce) Zietlow, of Marion, WI, and sister-in-law Jeanne Zietlow of Waupaca, WI, as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Schoedinger Funeral Home Northeast Chapel, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd., Columbus 43230 at 9am on Saturday, September 8, 2018. A memorial service will begin at 10am with Rev. Elaine Sturtz officiating. Private interment will follow at Floral Hills Cemetery, Lancaster. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to In Touch Ministries, PO Box 7900, Atlanta, GA 30357, or donate online to Earle and Jean Bruce Alzheimer's Research Fund in Neurology. The family would like to thank Darlene and Joyce for their care of Miriam.
