Monica Jean Andrews (née Hoggay), age 66, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2016 in Columbus, Ohio. She was born September 5, 1949 in Elgin, Illinois to Michael and Lorraine (Stoeckel) Hoggay. Monica gave everything she had into being a caring, involved, and inspirational mother. She encouraged her children to be giving, adventurous, artistic, educated, sporty, goofy, avid readers and always full of songs. Her family was her life. Her grandkids made her smile like no one else. She loved their energy, their thirst for knowledge and drama, their love of singing and dance. Monica loved school and excelled in Mathematics - dreaming one day to become a teacher. In high school, she was President of the Triple "S" Club, Arlington's service club for girls. She was a member of her high school and college newspapers and was selected to join Quill and Scroll, an international honorary society to recognize high school journalists. She returned to college later in life, attending Otterbein College night classes in English. Although she never made a career out of education, she was the best unpaid teacher to her children and grandchildren. She would tell you that she was very shy but that didn't stop her from being politically active (During Obama's 2012 presidential campaign, she was as giddy as a schoolgirl with all the election buzz), delivering Meals on Wheels, advocating for the world's poor, training staff in the Philippines and tutoring students after school. She loved Shakespeare and good mysteries - whether in book form or BBC miniseries. She had a beautiful voice that she rarely shared with others in her adult years. However, you could always count on her to sing Peter, Paul and Mary songs uninhibitedly to her granddaughters with such joy. In addition to PPandM, her favorite musicians included The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, Michael McDonald, Josh Groban, and of course, Jesse L. Martin. Monica shared her love of musicals and theatre with her children and grandchildren. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Michele Krainik. Monica is survived by loving children, Katie (Mike) Beaumont and David (Karla) Andrews; beloved granddaughters, Emma Lou Andrews and Mia Beaumont; siblings, Marsha (Craig) McCanless, Mary (Bill) Hughes, Michael (Janet) Hoggay and Mark Hoggay; brother-in-law, Cliff Krainik; along with numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. A celebration of life will take place Saturday, July 9, 2016 from 3-5PM at SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL, 5554 Karl Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mid-Ohio Foodbank (3960 Brookham Drive, Grove City, OH 43123) in her name. Monica was laid to rest in Kingwood Memorial Park (8230 Columbus Pike, Lewis Center, OH 43035).
