Nadine “Nancy” Scott of Worthington passed away on November 27, 2023 at the age of 90, with her family by her side. She was born on December 28, 1932 to the late John and Dorothy Hackett in Jackson, Michigan, and raised with her four siblings: Richard, Constance, Virginia and Margaret. Nancy always said losing her Dad at the age of 21 was one of the most difficult times of her life. After his death, she moved to Florida to attend Barry University in Miami. While employed as a secretary, she relocated to Chicago, and as fate would have it, she moved into the same apartment building where Jack Scott lived. Nancy did it her way, even back then, marrying Jack, four years her junior, at the age of 31.
In 1971, Jack and Nancy moved to Worthington Hills to raise their four children and lived in their same home for almost 50 years. In the early years, the Scott household was always bustling with neighborhood kids playing football or riding dirt bikes in the backyard. During the teenage years, Nancy was both feared and adored by her kids’ friends who came to her home- a legend known for her probing questions filled with both humor and genuine concern. In later years, her daughters-in-law, son-in-law, and grandchildren all came to hang out at the Scott pool and enjoy Sunday night dinners. Nancy could have written a book on how to be a mother-in-law and grandmother. Helpful and supportive but never meddling, she created a home where everyone wanted to be.
Nancy was fiercely loyal. She had one dog, Bouncer, whom she loved with all her heart, and one car, her Mercedes convertible. Throughout her life, she maintained close friendships with her “Soup Group” and other friends and neighbors from Worthington Hills. She was the life of any party, never afraid to dance on a table to get the party started, but also stood by her friends in their toughest moments. She was most loyal to her husband and family and tended to brag about them, which some might say was her favorite pastime.
Eagerly anticipating the role of grandmother, Nancy jokingly brought a doll as her “grandchild” to her luncheons with Soup Group for several years. Eventually she became “Nami” to twelve grandchildren. A performer at heart, she put on many skits, tap dances, and puppet shows for her family. She loved holidays and had spectacular family Halloween parties and Christmas Eve gatherings with creative decorations and usually a piñata in the garage. She was a voracious reader and knitter, knitting her famous Christmas stockings for all 20 family members and for a few fortunate family friends. Her family was everything to her, taking everyone on a Disney Cruise for her birthday 75th birthday and to a beautiful home on the Caribbean Sea for her 80th.
Nancy will be greatly missed by her family, John (Pam) Scott, Mike (Cathy) Scott, Pat (Alison) Scott; and Laura (Brad) Hunt, as well as her beloved grandchildren Elli, Jack, Max, Nate, Mary Nicole, Mitch, Drew, and Will Scott, and Ryan, Jessie, Sarah, and Chloe Hunt. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Nancy would have appreciated people supporting the Special Olympics team that her grandson, Ryan, who has Down syndrome and lives independently, participates in. Wild West Special Olympics, Sue Heil, Treasurer, 400 Orange St. S, Wauconia MN 55387. Please note "In Memory of Nancy Scott".
