Nancy L. Johnston, age 82 of Upper Arlington, went to be with her Lord on Monday, June 27, 2022. Nancy was born on June 29, 1939, in Butler Pennsylvania to the late George A. Stevenson, Jr. and Veva Alberta “Tootie” Stevenson. Nancy graduated from Butler High School in 1956 at the age of 16. Nancy continued her education, where she attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania. This is where she obtained her undergraduate degree in sciences and education in 1960. She then went on to Ohio University where she completed her Master’s Degree in Anatomy and Physiology in 1962. Her education continued with work toward a Doctorate Degree, studying neurosciences at West Virginia University. Nancy was a professional homemaker, as well as the office manager for her husband’s private dental practice. What ultimately brought her and her husband to Columbus was Riverside Bible Church where she was a member for over 54 years. Nancy enjoyed being a part of WMC (Women Manifesting Christ), and also served as a director of Daily Vacation Bible School for many years. Other than her church and daily devotion to reading her Bible, Nancy enjoyed spending time on their farm in Southeast Ohio, having a huge garden where she grew a large assortment of vegetables and fruits. Her family’s favorites were her sweet corn, strawberry jam, and her secret ingredient lemonade. She was also active and involved in her children’s school and hosted many out-of-town guests and retreats, so much so, that she obtained the nickname “The Queen of Fun”. Nancy was a godly woman with a heart of compassion and generosity. She would frequently give to anyone who crossed her path with a need. Nancy truly understood what the word Grace meant and embraced it. She often would give people “grace gifts”, a gift you didn’t earn or deserve, but given out of LOVE. Her most valued possession was her Bible, to which she devoted much time and study. More than any of her earthly accomplishments and achievements, Nancy would want to be remembered as a servant of Christ who loved the Lord with all her heart, soul, and mind. She also loved traditional church hymns and up until her final hours on earth, she would often mouth the words and smile to hymns as her children played them at her bedside. Some things that will be missed the most about Nancy are her laughter, her love for others and most importantly her love for God. Preceding her in death include her parents, her sister Ruth Gordon and her brother George A. Stevenson III. Nancy is survived by her loving and devoted husband Dr. Raymond D. Johnston of over 59 years; sister Alberta Belle “Berd” (Alan) Slater; sister-in-law Judy Stevenson; two children, Rebecca “Becky” Sue Canady (Phil) and Mark Aaron Johnston (Mary); grandchildren Lauren (Michael), Kayla (Zachary), Hannah (Tyler), Jake (Eliza); and great grandson Brecken (20 months). Friends may call Thursday, June 30 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST, 1740 Zollinger Rd. A memorial church service will be held Saturday July 9 at 10:30 AM at Riverside Bible Church, 5330 Olentangy River Rd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Riverside Bible Church in Nancy’s honor. Please visit www.schoedinger.com to share memories and condolences.
