Nina Elizabeth (George) Vanecko, aged 81, died with family by her side on November 12, 2014 from complications associated with cancer. She lived in Gahanna, OH for the last 41 years. Nina was born on March 7, 1933 in Gallipolis, Ohio, the daughter of Annona Elizabeth Goff and Dean Minturn George. Her maternal grandparents were Mary Cornelia Farrar and Ernest Gillespie Goff, and her paternal grandparents were Eva Frances Clark and Sidney Dean George.
After Nina graduated from high school in Gallia County, she moved to Columbus and was employed by Nationwide Insurance. While living in Columbus, Nina met Stephen Vanecko and they were married in 1957 at St Peter's Cathedral in Wilmington, Delaware.
Nina's life was defined by caring for others. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and a compassionate and attentive caregiver to her mother and her husband as their health declined. As an LPN she worked at the former St. Anthony's Hospital and retired from Alum Crest Nursing Home where she dedicated herself to relieving the suffering of others.
Nina was an avid gardener. Other interests included genealogy, literature, movies and travel, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Her favorite vacation spot was the beach, and she especially loved sharing this with family.
Nina was preceded in death by husband, Stephen, parents, Annona and Dean, and brother, Robert Dean. Left to morn her loss are her children and their spouses Nicholas (Rebecca) of Lexington Park, MD, Michael (Nadia) of Columbus, and Kristin (David Hunt) of Lancaster, OH; grandchildren, Rachel, Amanda, Catherine, Andrew and Abigail of Lexington Park and Joshua, Damaris and Caleb of Columbus; sister, Bonnie Blackmon of Statesboro, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Nina will be greatly missed by her loved ones.
