

Nora Short Jordan, 91, of Columbus, died Saturday, April 14, 2012. She was born October 21, 1920 in Meally, Kentucky to the late Grant and Susie (Preston) Short. As a child she lived through the Great Depression on a farm and graduated in 1938 from Meade Memorial High School in Williamsport, Kentucky. She attended Morehead State University and taught elementary school in Meally and in Firebrick, Kentucky before moving to Michigan. She met Russell Jordan and they were married in Flint, Michigan on December 21, 1944. During World War II, Nora stayed in Flint, Michigan and installed wiring in fighter planes for the North American Aviation airplane factory, while Russ was serving his country in the U.S. Army. Nora and Russ moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1952. Nora graduated from The Ohio State University in 1967 with a B.S. in Education. She was employed by South-Western City Schools in 1962, where she taught Special Education and first grade until her retirement in 1983. She was a member of the Eastern Star Harrison Fullerton Lodge #937 in South Shore, Kentucky, and an Honorable member of the Kentucky Colonels. Nora was a member of the Buckeye Christian Church in Grove City, Ohio. Her life was filled with many experiences and pleasures like traveling the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, Japan, and Indonesia. Nora enjoyed ceramics, toll painting, wood working, and sewing. She enjoyed growing vegetables and flowers in her garden. She was an avid golfer and played in the Seniors’ League, winning many trophies. Preceded in death by husband, Russell Jordan (March 2005). Also preceded in death by four brothers Herschel, Russel, Cecil, Arnold and one sister Ethel. Survived by her loving sister Ruby Williams, daughters Sonja L. Jordan and Susie J. (Ted) Carr, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, cousins, and many friends. Family will receive friends Friday from 4-7 PM at SCHOEDINGER GROVE CITY CHAPEL, 3920 Broadway where a funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 AM. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery.
