

Dr. Norman George, age 90, passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2018. Norman was born on August 1, 1927 to Mike and Bessie George in Martins Ferry, Ohio and graduated Valedictorian from Martins Ferry High School. Following his military service, he continued his educational journey by attaining multiple degrees, including a PhD in economics and business, as well as his Juris Doctor degree.
His professional life spanned nearly four decades in Dayton, Ohio, where he was instrumental in organizing the current University of Dayton School of Law in 1974. Over a 32 year career at the University he served as Dean of the law school, teaching in faculty and administrative positions at the School of Business, and mentoring many students. He believed that professional skills practiced at the highest levels intertwine both the substance and the process of the law.
In addition to his professional career, Norman was a Free Mason and Shriner.
After Norman's retirement from teaching in 1993 The University of Dayton honored Norman by naming room 111in Keller Hall for him. One of Norman's many honors and recognitions, the room naming honors Norman's outstanding support of the University of Dayton Law School.
Throughout his life, Norman and special friend and colleague Barbara Kirkbride worked together in all aspects of Norman's business ventures. Barbara and Norman enjoyed holidays and special occasions with family and friends on both sides.
One of his enduring interests in life was music and dancing. As an accomplished musician and vocalist he played with the Tommy Dale Band in Columbus, Ohio and he and Barbara were gifted in the art of ballroom dancing. While on a cruise with members of his family Norman slipped away to take dance lessons, mastering the Electric Slide and the Macarena.
Though a private man, he treasured his family and ensured he participated in family gatherings until he could no longer drive.
Norman is predeceased by his parents, his brother George (wife Bert), brothers James, Louis, sister Jenny (husband Joe) and brothers in-law Joseph Karam and James Dover.
He is survived by his sisters, Mary Lou Dover and Louise Karam, sisters-in-law Joanne George and Florence George and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Coventry Presbyterian Church, 2070 Ridgecliff Road in Columbus on Saturday, July 28th at 10:00 am followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am, conducted by Rev. Dr. Traci Keenan. Interment will be on Monday, July 30 at 11:00 am at Sunset Cemetery in Galloway, Ohio.
