

Otto G. Acker, age 99 of Upper Arlington, passed away Saturday, August 13, 2016. Otto was born July 24, 1917 in Batavia, Ohio, son of the late Otto K. and Helen Acker. Also preceded in death by his wives, Mildred Acker and Ruth Acker. Otto grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and graduated in record time with a degree in aeronautical engineering from Tri-State College in Angola, Indiana. He worked throughout his career for Curtis Wright, North American, North American Rockwell, and retired from Rockwell at the age of 60. During his career he worked closely with the US Navy and spent time on the Aircraft Carrier Independence during the early 60's as well as designed and worked on over 40 airplanes. Otto remained very active throughout his life. He was a longtime active member of the Columbus Maennerchor, Central Ohio Soaring Association, Central Ohio Numismatic Association, and McConnell Heart Health Center where he exercised 3 times a week. Traveling, new experiences, and a love of learning has kept Otto a young 99 year old. Always having a positive attitude is a legacy that he leaves with everyone who knew him. Otto especially loved his family and spending time with them and will be greatly missed by children, Gary Acker and Shirley (Chet) Britt; grandchildren, Danielle (Tom) Wade, James (Katy) Britt, and Lydia (David) DeCarlo; great grandchildren, Grant and Ryan Garges, Madeline and James Otto Britt, and Evan and Clara DeCarlo; step-grandchildren, Steven, Katie, and Jennifer Owen; siblings, Dolores Pena and Clarence Acker; and many other extended family members and dear friends. Family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. Tuesday, August 16, 2016 and 12:30- 1:30 P.M. Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd., where funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Wednesday. Interment Union Cemetery.
