An excellent athlete and ace student, Paul became bored with school and longed to leave his home to see the world and serve his country. Through some creative documentation adjustments, he made himself eligible for military service at the age of 16 and enlisted in the Air Force. Based on his high test scores and ability to decipher difficult information, Paul was selected to join a new high level Cryptography unit which was being formed to lead the fight against the growing threat of communism by capturing classified information from the Soviet Union. Paul started his enlistment at an un-disclosed base in South Dakota where he was selected to help design the future technology in enemy information gathering. His next duty station was a strategic listening post in Hawaii where Paul thrived in his new role and immersed himself in the local culture.
After his enlistment, Paul spent some time with his brother in Michigan before settling down with his other siblings in Columbus, Ohio to begin his career. Paul excelled in business and applied his strengths of patience, understanding, and general love of all people, to quickly excel in various marketing and management positions.
During this time he practiced the art of marriage before meeting one of the most wonderful (along with tolerant and understanding) women in the world, a lady he referred to as ‘Saint’ Nancy. He would spend the last 29 years of his life happily married to his soul mate. Paul was also the loving Father of 5 children that he among other things instilled 3 main character traits; Work hard, always love your Mother, and never give up. His children will remember him for his quick responses when assistance was needed, record setting disciplinary actions when violations occurred, and never going to bed without a hug, kiss, and a ‘ I Love you’.
Later in life Paul was known for his booming voice, poor hearing, larger than life presence, and his signature laugh. He would also entertain crowds with his often inappropriate one-liners and uncanny ability to always be able to justify ‘one more’ cold beer. Paul loved playing poker along with Ohio State and Cincinnati Bengal football. In fact, he always mentioned he wanted to be carried to his final resting place by a group of Bengals so they can lift him up only to ‘let him down’ one last time.
In the last 7 years of his life Paul survived a heart attack, a stroke, and throat cancer. However, his journey expired on July 10th while sleeping peacefully in a rehabilitation clinic recovering from shoulder replacement.
Paul was preceded in death by his Mother and Father along with his Brothers Ernie and Dan, and Sister Ruth. He is survived by his wife Nancy, and his siblings Coralee, Jim, and Liz. Along with his children; Jim, Kim, Tami, David, and Eddie. Paul was also blessed with 11 Grandchildren, 2 Great-Grandchildren, and countless Nieces and Nephews he loved very much.
In lieu of flowers, Paul would prefer a donation to be made to the Republican election office of your choice to help defeat Hillary Clinton in 2016.
A casual ‘Life Celebration’ gathering will be held for all family and friends at Gatsby’s Bar and Grille in Gahanna, OH on Saturday, July 27th starting at 7:00pm. Arrangements entrusted to Schoedinger Northeast Chapel. To share memories or condolences, visit www.schoedinger.com.
