My memories of Pauline are from her husband' s time at Berne Union High School where he was our director for the marching and concert bands when I was just beginning to come into the band at age 14.  The first band camp for they and I was at Peter and Paul Seminary at Heath, Ohio near Newark.  From memory I believe Pauline and Tim were taking the first night of the camp to have their honeymoon.  Their room was on 2nd  floor of the dormitory at the far end.  Upper classmen waited until the lights went off in their room and decided to start throwing marbles to wake them up but they threw them all the way down at the end of that huge room where we "rookies" were located, to make it look like we'd done it.  Each one of us who were at that other end had to go to their room to be asked who'd done this.  Mr. Swineheart was trying to keep his cool but his cheeks were bright red and Mrs. Swineheart was concerned this might not be a good hearted prank.  Over the next 3 years we had the honor to have Mr. Swineheart as our director I often saw Pauline nearby our practices making sure her husband had what he needed in the way of drinks and snacks.  I remember when their first son was born and became a toddler.  He was delightful and both his parents couldn't be more proud of him.   Pauline was always well spoken and very kind to those of us in the band and I had occasion to be asked by her how I was doing.  She cared and I saw her "correcting" certain people in our band who were always bullying me for being an "Indian".   Pauline was very pretty, always had a lot of grace and kindness to her, even and especially when supporting her husband while the board members were not treating him as they ought to have.  They ordered him to do things he didn't believe in and he stood his ground, which had to do with my race.  Pauline stood with him against that evil.  I will remember them both for the rest of my life and the impact they had on my life.

Sorry to hear of Pauline’s passing.  I knew here as “Pauline Toy”, her maiden name.  Between 1963 to 1965, I attended Westmoor Junior High School with Pauline.  Later, we matriculated together in 1965-1968 at West High School here in Columbus, Ohio.  I remember her house – nice 2-story white house on the west side of Hague Avenue that I walked past daily for three years to go to West High School.
In June of 1965, Pauline was our class valedictorian that year.  As my grade point average was #2 in that class, I was asked to give salutatorian speech that year.  I still have that 9th grade class photo – with her sitting there next to me in the center, front row in the gymnasium.  Of course, I was wearing my new tan, “Camel hair blazer” with my 1965-era black thin tie, white shirt, black shoes, and (OOPS!) glaring WHITE TUBE SOCKS in that photo!  Can you say “class geek”?  Mortified!  Who knew!
During the time at Westmoor Junior High, our history teacher, Mr. Poole, formed a group called “Teen Trips” to take us to Chicago to see their museums for the first year and went to Washington, D.C. the next year with a similar purpose.  I believe Pauline went with us on both trips to expand our educational horizons.  Wonderful trips . . . umpteen overnight hours in cheap seats on chartered buses from Columbus, Ohio.  Thank God we were very young at that time!  These days our backs couldn’t take it.  
Pauline also was several peoples’ accompanist for the annual musical contests at Capital University.  She bravely suffered my poor attempts at the sousaphone on those musical contests there and also at Mr. Barnard’s band classes.  
I remember her as a wicked smart young lady, always kind, and joyful through junior and senior high schools.  I didn’t know of her passing until Diane Ruffner Lind‎ via Sandy Moore Pentello passed me her information via Facebook recently.  I’ll donate to Dementia Society of America in her honor.  I’ve been away from Columbus since the mid-1970’s.  Rest in Peace, Pauline.
