

Peggy Ann Shafer, age 93, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 9, 2026, at Our Home Senior Living. Peggy was born on August 29, 1932, in Ironton, Ohio, to the late Sereno and Margaret Shafer. She was a loving daughter, sister, and aunt, cherished by her family for her gentle spirit and kind heart. Peggy graduated from West High School and went on to a long and dedicated career as a switchboard operator with Ohio Bell/AT&T, retiring after many years of faithful service. She had an artistic spirit and enjoyed painting. Peggy delighted in the glamour of movie stars and the great historical figures of her time, carefully saving magazine photographs and following the events that shaped that remarkable era. Peggy will be remembered as a gentle and generous soul—always kind, well-liked by all who knew her, and known for her warm words and good heart. Preceded in death by her parents and sister, Martha, who also passed away on January 9, 2026. Survived by her brother, David (Honey) Shafer; nieces, Carolyn and Julie; great nephew, Nathan; great nieces, Nicole, Heather and Holly; other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and again from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Advantage Funeral Services by Schoedinger Hilltop, 3030 W. Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43204. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, January 23, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., Burial will follow at Glen Rest Memorial Estates.
