Dear Libby, Sonya, Deatra, Donita and Jeff.
I know there are no words to help ease your pain so soon after your mother's passing, but I also know you share in the joy that she is at peace in heaven with God, Uncle Paul, Aunt Edna, Granny, Grandpa Pennington, Mom (Aunt Bootie) and all of the other loved ones that have gone ahead of her.  She fought her battle for a very long time until finally God said, "It's time to go" and he took her home.  I know from hearing you all talk at Aunt Edna's funeral just a few short weeks ago that you are blessed with good memories and those memories will provide comfort to you along the way.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you.  We love you all.  Viann, Brent and Family

Dear Family: Even though we are separated by the miles, know that our hearts and prayers are with you. Phyllis has always displayed such strength and beauty. She has fought this fight for so long, and now she can rest peacefully with God and our family members that have already went on. We love you all, Uncle Ray, Aunt Sue and Family in Indiana.

John and Family:  You are all in our prayers.  Our loss is Heaven's gain and knowing where she is now and the grand reunion that is taking place gives comfort, as well as knowing we will see her again.  I can just see Paul and Edna,  by Jesus side, welcoming her home!  No more tears, no more pain!  We love you all so very much.  If there's anything you need, don't hesitate to let us know. Dear Sweet Niece, 

The thing all of us will remember of you is your incredible strength, and along with that, the power of your laughter.  

On your strength--I remember a scene back on White Oak. You were very close to giving birth to one of your children (I can't remember which one). You were hanging out clothes and I remember seeing the dancing colors hanging on the line in the sun.  You stopped, got in the car, went to the hospital, had the child, and came back later to finish hanging out the clothes.

And your laghter--it was everywhere you were, great bursts of it, never failing to make a good world better. 

About you, I think these words:

Although the door is closed,
the sun refuses prison,
slips through a crack
Into the room--

As a child the things that meant the most to me, and I will always looked forward to was going to Florida to see grandma. I always looked forward to the plans she made for her grandchildren like going to Sea World, the Kennedy Space Center and Rock Springs. Her hot tub and the swimming poolwere the bomb. If there was a time you did something wrong she would let you know it. Like the time grandpa told me to call the State Patrolman a "Flat Head" so I did it and boy she let me have it. If anyone knows grandma they know what I mean. She was never afraid to give you her opinion or how she felt about anyone. She was all ways very forward and out spoken, but on the other hand she was fun loving and careing. If you didn't clean up after yourself she would let you know about it. I am very proud to be her oldest grandson who had broke the chain of girls and to me I will always carry her in my heart and memories. A grandma like her will never be forgotten she was the best grandmother ever. I will always keep her with me and we all know she will always be watching over us and let us know when we are right and or wrong. I miss you and love you grandma, but this is my prayer for our family. Grandma watch over us all and keep us safe and free from harm and give us all the strength to carry on! Love Robert

Mamma, you are and always will be my HERO!!!! I will forever hold in my heart all the memories of our late night phone conversations. I will aways remember our times we laughed and cried together.God gave you to us for a mother and you have been our greatest gift. Your smile and blue eyes are a gift to us all!!! We will miss you but, never will we forget how precious that you are in our hearts and memories. I have ask God to make me more like you and let me forever carry your mantle of LOVE.

Zane as the "adopted grandson".  Phyllis and Kyle share a birthday and I know that will always be special to him.  As a happy note, I will continue to try and make Fried Chicken the way Phyllis did, but I just don't think it will be the same no matter how hard I try!  What a cook!
