

Phyllis A. West, age 83, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2011 at Doctors Hospital West. Phyllis was born on June 8, 1928 to the late Levi J. and Myrtie (Jenkins) Bowen in Radcliff, Ohio. She graduated with honors from Vinton Rural Co. High School as Class Valedictorian. Phyllis then when on to Bliss College and started her career as a secretary with the Columbus Citizen Journal and the Columbus Dispatch. After her 3rd daughter was born Phyllis stayed home to care for her children. Once they began school she returned to work in retail at the Kmart on West Broad where she retired. Phyllis will be remembered for big heart, how she was always there for everyone and her giving spirit. She enjoyed bowling, reading, Cincinnati Reds and spending time traveling with her family. Preceded in death by her husband, Floyd West; siblings, Thomas, Victor, Donald “Pete” Bowen; Elizabeth Spencer, Frances Bowen, Georgia Wells and Leola Thompson. Survived by her daughters, Carla West, Kathy (Carl) Leatherwood, and Connie (Rick) DeBoard; grandsons, David, Steve, Cameron, and Brandon Cole; great grandchildren, Elaina and Shandon; many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at SCHOEDINGER HILLTOP CHAPEL, 3030 W.
