

Al was born in Geneva, New York on April 4, 1956 to Arvil E. and Emma Jean Waddell. He moved to Columbus as a boy and graduated from Westland High School. He completed his associate's degree at Cedarville College and then obtained his real estate license.
Al was a wonderful and outgoing person, gregarious by nature and one who truly never met a stranger. His warmth and enthusiasm for life drew people to him wherever he went. Guided by a strong sense of faith, he was deeply involved in both his church and the community he loved. He was a member of First Congregational Church, the Association of Realtors, Past President of Old Towne East Association, Near East Area Commission, Columbus Landmarks, Green Lawn Abbey, and served as former Treasurer of the Opera Project Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arvil E. Waddell and Emma Jean Waddell. He is survived by his husband of 36 years, Allen Baker; step-mother, Barbara Waddell; brother, Harvey (Deila) Waddell; a niece, nephews, and half -sister, Stephanie Tilley; along with his many dear friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at First Congregational Church, 444 E. Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43215, where friends may gather prior from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. A reception and afternoon tea will follow from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m at the Garden Manor, 108 N 20 St., Columbus, Ohio 43203
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Green Lawn Abbey, Opera Project Columbus, or First Congregational Church in his memory.
