

Ray was born in Columbus, Ohio on July 9, 1925, the only child of Virgil “Ray” and Virginia (Carson) Barker. Just one year ago his devoted wife of 56 years, Marilyn, preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by cousin Barbara (Don) Ashbrook. Ray will be deeply missed by family including cousins Carolyn and Phil Fulkerson, Lisa and Dean Ashbrook, and other extended family. He will also be missed by friends and caregivers at Friendship Village Dublin.
Ray graduated from North High School in 1943. He joined the Army that summer. Most of his service was with the 70th Infantry Division Band during WWII. Ray used the GI Bill to study at and graduate from The Ohio State University with a BA (1949) and MD (1953). Ray spent most of his cardiology career in private practice, seeing patients and teaching at Riverside Methodist Hospital. He considered his receipt of the “Riverside Methodist Hospital Annual House Staff Award for Teaching Excellence” a great accomplishment in his career. Ray was a lifelong lover of music especially opera. Together, he and Marilyn travelled the world, ballroom dancing wherever they visited.
Visitation begins at 10am on Saturday, November 15th, 2025 at Schoedinger Northwest, 1740 Zollinger Rd, Columbus, OH 43221. Service to follow at 11am.
