Renate Robertson Sabistina

Renate Robertson Sabistina was born on September 13, 1937 to Wilhelm and Eugenie Buettner in Warsaw, Poland. She passed on June 12, 2025. She immigrated to America as a young teen and worked hard to attain her American citizenship.

Renate married Charles Robertson on May 6, 1955 and raised two children together.

She is preceded in death by three siblings, Isolde Rein Carpenter, Waldemar Buettner and Harry Buettner. Her four siblings that survive her are Siegfried (Rosie) Buettner, Johanne (Gary) Winner, Kriemhilde (Randy) Hunt and Suzanne Buettner.

Renate married Joe Sabistina Jr. late in life and he remains her devoted dance partner. She also leaves behind two sister-in-laws, Darlene Baughman and Shirley Skubenics.

Ernest (Karen) Robertson and Arleen (Matthew) Long are her only children. She had five grandchildren: Joe (Samantha) Robertson, Shaina (Matthew) Brainard, Jay (Kate) Robertson, Jacob (Erin) Reissig and Joshua (Whitney) Reissig. Her legacy of love includes 13 great grandchildren.

Renate began her longtime journey in the Bursar’s office at The Ohio State University where she was employed until her retirement after 30+ years. She was a member of the Columbus Germania Club. She was also a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Dublin, OH. She lived her later years at Bluebird Retirement Community in Marysville, OH.

Visitation will be held at St. John Lutheran Church at 6135 Rings Rd., Dublin on Thursday, June 19, 2025 from 9:30am to 11am. A service will follow at 11am and a reception/lunch will begin at noon. Burial will be on Friday, June 20, 2025 at 12:15pm at Union Cemetery in Columbus, OH.
