Rhoda Ellen Ruben, age 82, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away January 11, 2017. Born October 23, 1934 to the late Sam and Dorothy Klein in Cleveland, OH, where she spent the first 17 years of her life. She was a graduate of Glenville High School and then attended The Ohio State University where she met the love of her life, Don, to whom she was happily married for 62 years. When Don graduated in 1954, they were married and went to live in Don's hometown, Leipsic, Ohio. When Don's Air Force service began as a 2nd lieutenant, they then went to live in Kinston, N.C. After flight training he was transferred to Kadena Air Force Base in Okinawa where Rhoda joined him 8 months later after the birth of their son-and what a wonderful experience that was. Don, after receiving his captaincy, left the Air Force at the end of that stint and went to work for the Defense Contract Audit Agency in Cleveland, Ohio where they lived in S. Euclid, Ohio for 10 years until moving to Columbus in 1972 when he eventually became head of the Columbus office. Rhoda wound up working as an executive secretary for Merrill Publishing for 15 years until the company was taken over by another publisher. Rhoda is survived by her husband, their children Steven and Nancy Ruben of Brookeville, Maryland and their wonderful grandchildren Stephanie, Daniel, Lauren, and Sara; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as her dear cousin Adele Cohn who was like a sister to her. She achieved almost everything she wanted in life - extensive travel, designing a new home, a life master in bridge, good friends and lots of fun. She leaves behind her very best friend, Don.
Family will receive friends Thursday, January 19, 2017, from 3 to 4 pm at Schoedinger Northeast, 1051 E. Johnstown Road Gahanna, Ohio 43230, where a service will follow at 4pm.
