

Richard "Dick" James Mackessy, Jr., age 83, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 17, 1933, Brooklyn, NY to late, Richard J. Mackessy, Sr. and Marion (Soper) Mackessy. Dick graduated from Southside High School in Long Island, NY in 1950 and from SUNY Maritime College, New York (Bronx), NY in 1954. Dick proudly served in the U.S. Navy actively from 1954 until 1962. He worked for Babcock and Wilcox, North American Aviation, F.W. Bell, DMI, Inc., Motortest, Inc. as an engineer, sales and executive positions. Dick founded Ometek Inc. He was inducted into the SUNY Maritime College, New York Hall of Fame for Basketball and Baseball. Dick was active in many parish activities at St. Anthony Parish where he was particularly active in the annual Corn Roast. He enjoyed traveling, tennis and was an avid sports fan. Dick especially loved the Cavs, Indians, Browns and Dodgers, but mostly loved coaching or watching his many grandchildren play sports. He was a man who never knew a stranger and will be remembered for his unforgettable smile, his distinct whistle and for his "never give up" attitude. Dick is survived by loving wife of 60 years, Kathleen C. (Clark) Mackessy; devoted children, Richard (Mary), Thomas (Andrea), John (Linda), Jim (Peggy), and Mary (Brad Beasecker); grandchildren, Ricky, Abbey, Carly, Natalie (Brian Switzer), Andrew, Emily, Patrick, Johnny, Ben, Julia, Grace, Kelly, Megan (Tyler VanLandingham), Michael, Molly, Danny, Emma, Katie, Jack, Laura (Matt Workman), Audrey (Brian Sweeterman), Elizabeth, Luke, William; great grandchildren, Cora, Grace, Sam, Marcus; many loved nieces and nephews; along with numerous friends. Family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Friday, October 14, 2016 at SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL, 5554 Karl Road. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2016 at St. Anthony Parish, 1300 Urban Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43229. Private family interment on Monday at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Anthony Parish in his name. Special thanks to Charnike, Tasha, Sharon, Shannon, Heather, Jennifer, Amanda, Norma and all the care givers from Capital City Hospice for their tender and loving care over the last few months.
