Richard "Dick" A. Shearer

Richard Aaron "Dick" Shearer, age 89, passed away on January 1, 2021. Dick was born in Dayton, OH, to Aaron and Florence (Rice) Shearer on August 31, 1931. He grew up in Dayton and is a 1949 graduate of Fairview High School. He is a U.S. Army veteran, dutifully serving our country during the Korean conflict. Dick attended Manchester College and Miami University of Ohio where he earned his Master's degree in Education. He began his career as a teacher and coach in the Dayton City School district at Kiser High School where he was instrumental in the development of the special education program. He later taught English in the Northmont City School district. Between teaching jobs, he worked in the metal casting business for 12 years. In retirement, Dick and his wife Donna traveled the U.S. extensively in a fifth wheel camper they called home. They eventually settled in the Columbus area and became members of New Albany Methodist Church. An avid sports fan, Dick enjoyed playing golf and was a dedicated follower of the Cincinnati Reds, Bengals, and OSU Buckeyes. Dick is a member of the Freemasons and a past Master of Englewood Lodge #743. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton. Recently, Dick was very proud to fly along with fellow veterans to Washington D.C. on Columbus Honor Flight.

Dick is preceded in passing by his parents and his sister, Charlotte. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Donna L. Shearer (Loe); his daughter, Denise S. (Roger) Solt; his son, Richard A. (Cindy) Shearer; granddaughters Megan (Jeff) Ferrer, Amanda (Osiris) Briseno, Jennifer Solt and Courtney (Mike) Rankin; grandsons Jeff (Caroline) Solt and Brent (Emily) Shearer; as well as 8 great-grandchildren; his canine companion Ellie; and many other dearly loved friends and family members, who will all deeply miss him.

ARRANGEMENTS ENTRUSTED TO SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST. A private funeral service will be held in Dick's memory on Saturday, January 9, 2021, starting at 10am. For those who wish to be present in spirit, a live webcast of Dick's service will be available at www.schoedinger.com on his Tribute Wall page shortly before the service begins.
