Born on December 2, 1939, Reverend Dunbar dedicated his life to faith, family, and community. He was a devoted husband to Juana M. Dunbar and a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Reverend Dunbar was preceded in death by his parents, Alma and Vernon Dunbar; his siblings, Vernon Jr., Phyllis, and Howard; and his beloved son, Richard.
He is survived by his cherished wife, Juana M. Dunbar; and his children: Christina, Damond (Sandra), Marc (Alina), LaVant, and LaMont. He leaves behind a legacy of love in his grandchildren: Heather, Alexandria, Kyndal, Marc II, Devon, Amber, Zoe, Zuriah, and Maleki; and great-grandchildren: Emmarie, Marc III, Jaxxon, and Lincoln.
Reverend Dunbar served faithfully at numerous congregations, including New Horizon United Methodist Church, Asbury North United Methodist Church, King Avenue United Methodist Church, Centenary United Methodist Church, Covenant United Methodist Church, and Wesley Church of Hope United Methodist Church. His ministry was marked by compassion, strength, and unwavering faith. He officiated countless weddings, offered counsel and comfort to many, and nurtured both young and old through his spiritual leadership.
Reverend Dunbar was a pillar of strength in the community. His kindness and gentle spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew him. He served on the committee that was instrumental in bringing the Urban League to Toledo, where his advocacy and passion for justice helped uplift the community he loved so dearly.
Beyond his ministry, he found great joy in spending time with his family—especially on trips and vacations. He loved to travel and for many years you would find him and Juana traveling or camping in their RV. An automobile enthusiast at heart, he had a special love for classic cars—especially his prized GTO, which he proudly called the “GOAT.”
His presence was a source of light and strength, and his memory will continue to inspire those who were blessed to know him. The family would like to thank National Church Residences Hospice for their exceptional care and comfort during the end of life.
