Richard Vrooman Lamprey, 76, of Worthington, died at his residence August 22, 2015. He was born February 16, 1939 in Schenectady New York to the late Farrar Loomis and Doris Marjorie (Fenwick) Lamprey.
He received his BS in Electrical Engineering and his MS in Industrial &System Engineering Degree from Ohio University where he was a member of Tau Beta Pi and vice president of Alpha Pi Mu.
Richard’s long career consisted of Director of Manufacturing at Midget Motors Corporation; General Manager at Con-Ag Equipment, Inc; Graduate Assistant at Ohio University; Director, Procurement and Contracts at Sunpower, Inc; CEO Industrial Management Systems. He retired in 2003 and replaced his enthusiasm for work with civic activities including the following: Green Energy Ohio (Volunteer of the year), Worthington Community Garden, Sustainable Worthington, Simply Living, Clintonville Solar Co-Op, American Computing Machinery, American Institute of Industrial Engineers, American Management Association. He was a fan of do it yourself projects, traveling and reading. He was known for being involved in a lot of civic groups, as a neighborhood organizer of block party events, and using his electrical engineering skills to help neighbors fix problem. Richard’s favorite color was purple. He was passionate about Education and the environment. He loved nature, hardware and electrical stores, music, eating out, his family and pets. He loved to help others; he was a kind and generous man.
He is survived by his wife Janet (Baker) Lamprey and step children Carol (Tony) Jones, Jody Wagner, James (Carol) Nelson, Aaron (Jennie) Christian; Grandchildren Bridget(Mark)Bennett, Kyle (Colleen) Webb, Ian (Elizabeth) Jones, Hallie (Brandon) Good, Stephanie(Greg) Scott, Nicole Blanton, Andrea (Steven) Kinter ,Curtis (Lindsay) Nelson; siblings, Donald Lamprey (deceased), Ann Lamprey sister-in-law, Gary Baker brother-in-law, Diana Baker (deceased) sister-in-law; Great Grandchildren, Nolan Good, Brooks Good, Ethan Kinter (deceased), Mason Kinter, Madyson Kinter, Myleigh Kinter, Mia Kinter, Taylor Nelson, Cooper Nelson, Natalie Jones; Nieces and Nephews, Dan (Deb) Lamprey, Zane (Mel) Lamprey, Amy (Brandon)Kruse Chris and Matthew Baker; and Feline Friends Maggie and Daisy.
Visitation will be at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON, 6699 N. High Street Tuesday, August 25, 2015 from 5:30-8:30PM where a funeral service will be held Wednesday at 12PM with Celebrant Andrew Hoover officiating. Burial will follow at River Cliff Cemetery in Mt. Gilead. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Simply Living (CEC Project), PO Box 82273, Columbus 43202 or a charity of your choice in Richard Lamprey’s memory.
