Richard "Mac" McElroy, 72, passed away on October 5, 2021. He was born to Chester and Jennie (Lekson) McElroy on September 12, 1949 in Akron, OH. After graduating high school, he continued his education at Bowling Green State University, eventually earning his Masters' Degree from John Carroll University. He spent 35 years in the Parma City School District, changing his position from teaching earth science and chemistry to counseling to At Risk Home Visitation counselor and ending at the board office facilitating the development of student-based software. He jokingly called it his "seven-year itch" as he changed roles about every seven years. After retirement and moving to Columbus, Ohio, he served as the president of his HOA.
Mac enjoyed spending time traveling, creating stained glass, and sipping on a glass of scotch. His family and friends will remember him for his quick wit and being exceptionally "punny". He was always willing to offer his handyman services for family or neighbors. Mac is preceded in passing by his parents; left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary (Menzel) McElroy; sons Mark (Vivian Zheng) McElroy and Scott (Sarah) McElroy; daughter Erin O'Connor; granddaughter Emily O'Connor; sister Jan (Jim) Boggs; and many other loved family members and friends.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 from 6pm-8pm at Schoedinger Northeast, 1051 East Johnstown Road, Gahanna, OH 43230. A memorial service will take place the following morning at 11am at Church of the Resurrection, 6300 E Dublin Granville Rd, New Albany, OH 43054.
