Richard William Nelson

Richard was born to Jerome William and Marjorie Ruth Nelson on January 3rd, 1959 at The Ohio State University hospital, where later his sisters, Marjorie Anne and Mary Beth, soon followed. The family moved to Houston in 1966 as Jerome's work with automatic welding was expanding to Texas. Richard graduated Cum Laude from Memorial High School in Houston in 1977. Following graduation, Richard studied physics at the University of Texas at Austin. Then, when the family returned to Columbus in 1978, he studied photography at The Ohio State University. Richard took many memorable pictures of family members over the years, enjoying working in his darkroom and developing his own film. Richard enjoyed Astronomy as he would aim his telescope to the heavenly sights and share his findings with family and friends. Also, he was an avid and excellent chess player. Richard loved to travel, once driving the entire Trans-Alaska highway. He loved his family and friends, and also his Husky dog, Watson.

Richard is survived by his parents Jerome William and Marjorie Ruth Nelson; his only child, Nolan Daniel Nelson, son-in-law Tayton Joseph Strub, granddaughters Niah Jade Gleason and Nakoa June Nelson-Strub; sister Marjorie Anne Eichorn, brother-in-law Rick John Eichorn, niece Bethany Ruth Thomas, nephew-in-law Sheldon Scott Thomas, grandniece Evelyn Nova Thomas, nephew Benjamin Luke Wagner; sister Mary Beth Erickson, brother-in-law Bruce Morrow Erickson, nieces Emma Rose Erickson and Katherine Grace Erickson.

A memorial service will be held in Wadsworth, Ohio in the spring. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be sent to Kaleidoscope K9s in Ohio.
