

A funeral service for Richard Royal “Dick” Price, age 85, of Newark, will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Welsh Hills Cemetery, Granville, Ohio.
He was born September 17, 1926, in Martinez, California, to the late Charles and Kathleen Price. Richard was a graduate of Denison University, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity and the Varsity “D” Men’s Athletic Association. He served honorably in World War II for 41 months as an officer with the 29th Infantry Regiment and later in Military Government. He was a life member of the National Infantry Association, the 29th Infantry Association, the Sons of the American Revolution (General Henry Knox Chapter, Mt. Vernon, Ohio), Post 85 of the American Legion, and the Morgan Park Military Academy Alumni Association, Chicago, Illinois. His great grandparents, Thomas Davis Price and Sarah Jane Jones Price, were early settlers in the Welsh Hills, establishing the Price Fruit Farm on Price Road in 1823.
Richard was preceded in death by his loving wife and best friend, Patricia Anne Price, who passed away on October 17, 2009. He is survived by two children, Marianne Tidwell of Newark, Ohio, and Matthew Price of Johnstown, Ohio. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Kristen Holmquist, Kenneth Tidwell, and Shawn Tidwell, all of Newark; along with great grandchildren, Malcai Tidwell, Gabriel Tidwell, Zachariah Vogt, and Serenity Tidwell; a brother, Larry Price of Bremerton, Washington; nephew, Ted Price, Jr. of Sterling, Illinois; and nephew, Charlie Price of Richmond, Virginia, who has been most notable for being a great friend and loyal family member for many years; and other numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Ted Price, Owen Price, Ira Price, and Glynn Price, all of whom served honorably in World War II and survived the war. He was also predeceased by a sister, Genevieve Price Tichenor.
