

Richard D. Weikel II ("Rick"), 49 years old, passed away from complications related to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) on May 27th. Richard, born on December 30th 1967, attended the Ohio State University and graduated with a BS in Engineering in 1997. Inspired by his father, Rick spent his career in the field of engineering working for Fabcon, WD Partners, and MS Consultants in the areas of civil and structural engineering. As a professional engineer, Rick became licensed in over 25 states working on restaurants, colleges, and retail stores across the country. Rick enjoyed woodworking, golfing, hiking, biking, but, most of all, spending time with his children and family. Rick was a faithful, loving, and dedicated husband and father. Rick is survived by his wife Kim Weikel and his three children Ryan, Lauren, and Matthew. He is also survived by his parents Bettye Best and Richard and Deborah Weikel; 4 brothers- Jeff Weikel (Nikki Weikel), David Venne (Kristy Venne), Michael Venne, and Alex Venne; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, June 2nd, at 11:00am at Genoa Baptist Church in Galena. Calling hours will precede the service at 10:00am.
