

Richard F. Ziska, age 86, of Dublin, died Sunday, July 10, 2016 at his home with his loving family by his side. Born October 2, 1929 in Brecksville, Ohio, son of the late Anthony J. and Mary (Kamerak) Ziska. Besides his parents, Richard was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters. A devoted husband, father, Grandfather and brother, he will be missed by his loving wife of 63 years, Marjorie (Cornish) Ziska; his children, Rick (Patti) Ziska, Robin (Larry) Miller and Susan (Paul) Beargie; adored grandchildren, Christine, Kelly and Julie Ziska, Karen (Brad) Frye, Kim (Andrew) Montgomery, Matt (Katie) Miller, David and Kevin Beargie; great grandson, Ben Frye. Survived by his sisters, Loretta (Ara) Yarjanian and Marge Yarmesch; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends .Dick graduated from Brecksville High School in 1947, He was a four year letterman in football, basketball, and baseball. He received his Bachelor’s
Degree from Ohio University ‘52, where he was a member and past President of Beta Theta Pi fraternity and ROTC and named the top ROTC student. Dick married his college sweetheart. After graduation, Dick was stationed in Fort Lee Virginia, then married Margie before flying to Japan. He served in the Korean War as 1st Lt. and was awarded United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Commendation Ribbon. Richard was a commentator and member of St. Andrew Parish since 1968, as well as member of Scioto Country Club where he enjoyed golf and tennis. Margie and Dick won several tennis tournaments at Scioto, and on their AGC trips. Richard retired as President/Owner of The Myron Cornish Co. of Columbus which he founded 40 years earlier.
Dick was held in highest regard in the construction industry. He left his mark installing acoustical treatment in schools, churches, shopping malls, hospitals and universities. Member of the Associated General Contractors, President, and Man of the Year (Cornerstone Award 1983) of the Columbus Builders Exchange. Trustee of the State Carpenters Health and Welfare Fund, member of the American Arbitration Assoc. Charter member of the American Sub-Contractors Association, Columbus Chapter. Mercator Club. Dick was so happy his nickname was the “Happy Buddha”. He enjoyed vacationing with family, friends, and business associates. Some favorite pastimes were bowling, gardening, playing cards with family and friends.
Final thoughts from Dick, “Be well, stay safe and smile (it makes your face feel good), and if smiles are good, laughs are even better! It has been said “You don’t stop laughing when you die, you die when you stop laughing”. Friends may call 4-7 pm Wednesday at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL 1740 Zollinger Rd, where prayer service will be held at 7:00 pm Wednesday. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 am Thursday, July 14, 2016 at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 1899 McCoy Road at Reed Rd., with Monsignor Stephan Moloney, Celebrant. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
