Robert W. Dorfman February 10 1935 to January 18 2017. Bob, born in 1935 to Henry and Louise, loved everything about growing up as a city kid of the 40's and 50's in Detroit and later Dearborn Heights, MI. Boy Scouts, Saturday matinees, watching the Detroit Lions and the Detroit Tigers play at Briggs Stadium, riding the city bus with his friends, and watching the Hudson's parade on Thanksgiving. Bob absolutely adored his red haired little sister Linda, even when she practiced her tap dancing while he tried to watch TV with his best buddy Jack. Many a summer he spent in Nashville visiting numerous Cathey uncles, aunts and cousins. Wonderful adventures and good times were had with his favorite Tennessee cousin, Reba Louise. Upon returning home from college, Bob discovered a cute girl in a white uniform who worked at the soda fountain at his dad's drug store. He asked Mary Ruth if he could drive her home from work one night, and she said yes. At first Mary Ruth thought Bob was a bit struck on himself, but decided he was kind of cute. Three years later, Bob and Mary were married on June 29 1957. Bob was a natural salesman and enjoyed working hard to make a living. He always considered his accounts HIS customers rather than his employer's customers and relished in their success as their success was his success. As Sargent Dorfman, Bob served his country as an American hero in the Michigan National Guard where he drove a two and half ton truck and excelled at target shooting for nine years. Bob specifically chose to be a truck driver when he discovered that meant he wouldn't have to hike many miles with a large heavy back pack. Beneath a sometimes tough guy exterior there was hidden a real push over of a guy. Bob had a soft spot for animals, and while traveling on business he came across a sign marked "Free Kittens". A very smart little girl cat saw "sucker" written all over Bob and decided she would go home with him. That little gray hair tabby named Tulip lived with Bob and his family for 19 years. In 1985, Bob, Mary, daughter Jayne and Tulip embarked on a big adventure by moving to Columbus, OH. Over the last 30 years, Bob and Mary have enjoyed exploring Columbus and Ohio. Above all else, Bob was the most proud of the family that he and Mary shared. Son Robert (Bobby) was the first born and along with wife Becky have raised two wonderful children while building a business in Michigan. Bob never missed an opportunity to brag about his grandkids. Purdue graduate and grandson Jason and soon to be University of Michigan graduate and granddaughter Krysten. Daughter Jayne is a graduate of Ohio Dominican University and followed the family tradition by working in the pharmaceutical industry as a credit analyst.
