

Robert "Bob" Denis Marotta, 75, passed away surrounded by family on March 6, 2022. A New York City native, Bob was born in Brooklyn on May 18, 1946 and grew up in the town of Carle Place on Long Island. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Dorothy Marotta, and his brother, Ronald.
Bob was the first member of his family to graduate from college, earning a degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1968. He was a proud member of the United States Army R.O.T.C. He completed Airborne School at Fort Benning and was a First Lieutenant in the United States Army.
At Notre Dame he met his wife, Peggy, and the young couple moved to Chicago, where he completed his Juris Doctor at the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1974. They soon settled in Peggy's hometown of Columbus, Ohio, where they remained for their 51 years of marriage and raised 3 children - Joe, Kate, and Amy. All of them graduated from Columbus Academy, where Bob served on the Board of Trustees. He was especially proud of their academic and athletic accomplishments.
Bob was a tireless worker, dedicating his career to the intersection of health care technology and regulation. He served as the Senior Vice President-Regulatory Counsel of Merck-Medco Managed Care, which awarded him the inaugural "Lifetime Achievement Award" for his distinguished service to the company and commitment to patient care. He was then part of the founding team of WebMD Health Corporation, the leading consumer health portal, where he was Senior Vice President and Chief Regulatory Counsel. He also was of counsel at Kegler, Brown, Hill, & Ritter in Columbus.
He was a recognized leader in his field, serving as the Chairperson Emeritus of the eHealth Initiative. Bob was also the recipient of the President's Distinguished Service Award as well as the Latiolais Honor Medal from the Pharmaceutical Care Management Association.
Always emphasizing the duty of service to others, Bob devoted his time and expertise to several organizations, including the University of Notre Dame Arts & Letters Advisory Council and the Ohio Northern University Board of Trustees.
In his later years, he enjoyed spending time at Scioto Country Club, where he cheered on the Fighting Irish and shared stories about his grandchildren.
Bob's greatest joy and source of pride was always his family. He is survived by his wife, Peggy, and their children Joe (Melissa McDermott), Kate (Michael Hourigan), and Amy (Drew Lester). Bob was immensely proud of his eleven grandchildren: Alex, Colin, Victor, Charlie, Teddy, Sam, Frank, Benny, Maggie, Liam, and Betty.
Family will receive friends from 1-4 PM on Sunday, March 13, 2022 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST, 1740 Zollinger Road, Upper Arlington, Ohio 43221. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Monday, March 14, 2022 at Our Lady of Victory, 1559 Roxbury Road, Columbus, Ohio 43212.
