Robert Daniel Mays

Robert Daniel Mays, 83, of Gahanna, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 9, 2021. Robert was born on May 15, 1938, in Oak Harbor, Ohio, to the late John E. and Gladys Mays. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his loving wife Mary Jo, son John R. Mays and his sister, Lois Kiser.

Robert graduated from Oak Harbor High School. He attended Penn State University and graduated with a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering. He was married to the love of his life Mary Jo for 60 years. He started his career with the railroad: New York Central, Penn Central, and retiring from Conrail and Amtrak in 2002. He was the most caring, loving and giving person, as well as the best husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Nothing brought Robert more joy than watching his children and grandchildren swim in his pool and giving them all rides on "Grandpa's tractor".

Robert will be deeply missed by his children: Cynthia DeHays, Nicolette (Leonard) Woods, and Molly Singer; daughter-in-law Mindy Mays; grandchildren: Steve (Amber) Mays, Justin Singer, Megan (Mike) Burt, Jade (Rob) Moore, Dana (Brandon) Gerber, Carson DeHays (Christine Kimble), Anthony Singer, Victoria (Dominic) DeRiso, Mary Singer, Emily Mays, Samantha Mays, Dereke Acosta; great grandchildren Miles Mays, Daniel DeHays, Lincoln and Lettie Burt, Kai and Sully Singer; and sister Carol Sovay as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be held Sunday, July 25, 2021 from 3-6PM with a 5:30PM Prayer Service at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST, 1051 East Johnstown Road, Gahanna. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 4383 E Broad St. Columbus, at 11AM on Monday, July 26, 2021. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Alzheimer's / Dementia Association at www.alz.org .
