

Robert Stuart Tannehill Jr, age 85, of Columbus, Ohio, died April 8, 2026 at Ohio State University Hospital. He was born on December 3, 1940 in Vicksburg, MS, to Robert Stuart Tannehill Sr and Claudia McQueen Hall Tannehill, and was descended from pioneer families of North Carolina and Mississippi. Graduated from Thomas M. Cooley High School, Detroit, MI; earned an undergraduate degree in Chemistry from the University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg, MS; and a master’s degree in Information Science from Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA. Served in the U.S. Army, Ordnance Corp, from 1963-1966, reaching the rank of Captain. Worked for Chemical Abstracts Service, Columbus, OH from 1969-2004 as Manager, Library Services, and lastly, as Senior Systems Coordinator. He married Betsy Gardner of Hattiesburg, MS, in 1965. Preceded in death by his parents and parents-in-law. Survived by his wife; his brother, Donald Tannehill (Sue); his children: Stuart Tannehill (Xinlu), Sarah Tannehill-Gregg (John), Amy Breitag (David), and Andrew Tannehill (Kim Medici); and 9 grandchildren: Sean Tannehill, Jessica (Meimei) Tannehill; Shannon Gregg, Joshua Gregg, Emma Gregg; Patrick Breitag, Rachel Breitag; and Mylah Medici and Talulah Medici; and his sister-in-law, Cary Drennen (Vic). Mr. Tannehill was active in Covenant Presbyterian Church as an elder, deacon, choir member, and community garden manager; he was moderator of the Presbytery of Scioto Valley; and active with the Presbytery’s Geneva Hills Center that he loved so much; Boy Scouts; Vaud-Villities (where he was a member for 38 years); and in many professional areas, including the American Society for Information Science, the National Information Standards Organization, and as an Adjunct Instructor, Kent State Univ., School of Library and Information Science.
