

Robert was born in Cleveland on December 26, 1918 and graduated from Wellston High School in 1935 and The Ohio State University in 1939 as a Civil Engineer. He served in the US Army from July 1940 to December 1945 with combat engineers unit in Panama and Philippine Islands. He was employed by Burgess and Niple, Limited in January 1946 in charge of Hoover Dam road relocations. In 1955, he formed highway design section which designed much of the Columbus Expressway System and other major interstate highways in Ohio. In 1965 he formed the water resources planning section and commenced work on the State of Ohio Water Plans which extended over a 10 year period. In 1976 he started a two year study on a water plan for Trinidad, Puerto Rico. Also at that time he was named head of marketing for Burgess & Niple. In 1982 he became Chairman of Board of Partners. In late 1984, he became the head of the Phoenix office of the firm and retired at the end of 1985 after 40 years of service to the firm.
He was a member of the Secretary of Professional Engineers and participated in the founding of its education arm, The Engineers Foundation of Ohio in 1964 and served as its president for its first four years. He was a member of Management Association of Ohio and served as president in 1980. He was a member of the Society of Marketing Professionals and Engineers Club of Columbus. He was a trustee of the Stadium Downtown Alumni Association of OSU and a member of the Wheaton Club since 1978 and an officer of the Eleventh Engineer Veterans Group of World War II.
He lived in Worthington since 1950 and was retired from the Army Reserves in 1978 as a Lieutenant Colonel of Engineers.
His survivors include his wife Helen (Davis) Tippett; daughters Elizabeth Tippett of Columbus and Constance Tippett Chandler of Portland, OR; son Thomas Tippett and daughter–in-law Sherry Tippett of Centerville, Ohio. Granddaughters include Amy Robison, Anna Gretschmann, Radha Pappas, Shelley Tippett, Katherine Lundbeck and Jackie Tippett; grandson Sam Nieburgs; great grandchildren Aiden Finn Gretschmann, Skya Grace Gretschmann, Jonah Pappas, Zoey Pappas and Dashiell Lundbeck.
Visitation will be held at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON, 6699 N. High St., Worthington Thursday, December 3, 2015 from 2-4 PM. A funeral service, committal and Military Honors will be held Friday, December 4 at 10AM at the chapel at Union Cemetery, 3349 Olentangy River Rd with The Rev. Dr. Timothy Jones officiating.
