

Dr. Robert Harrison Turrell, DDS, age 87, died Saturday, March 28th, 2015. "Dr. Bob" Turrell was born in Columbus on Feb. 17, 1928. He grew up in Clintonville where his lifelong passion for fishing began on the historical Olentangy River, fishing with his twin brother Ronald. Bob graduated from North High School and went on to graduate from OSU and serve in the U.S. Navy where he was a Pharmacist's Mate on board a Naval ship, honorably discharged in December of 1947. He attended Ohio State University's Dental School, graduating in 1954 and established a successful practice on North High Street near the Park of Roses. Bob became an associate professor of dentistry at OSU where he taught for almost 20 years. His main hobby was fishing and he covered a lot of ground. He fished for walleye, perch and bass on Lake Erie. On the French River in Ontario, he caught trophy small mouth bass, walleye and large northern pike to the delight of his two young sons. Bob fished Georgian Bay and flew by seaplane into other fish camps in Canada. In the Bahamas, he caught Yellowfin Tuna at Walker's Cay and in Florida he fished Naples, the 10,000 Islands and Everglades landing snook, redfish, sea trout, grouper, shark, snapper and flounder. He fished offshore, from the N. Carolina Outer Banks, with his sister and brother-in-law, catching Yellowfin Tuna and Spanish Mackerel. In Alaska he caught salmon and finally at his farm in Morgan County, he enjoyed fishing for bass and bluegill. Dr. Turrell served on the board of the Civil War round table and enjoyed all forms of history. He also collected Nautical antiques and made gold castings for his family and friends, drawing on his expertise in crown and bridge dentistry. Bob lived in old Arlington and enjoyed summers at Devon pool where his wife Maggie raised their children swimming during summers. He also enjoyed his two English Setters, Crumpet and Penny. He is preceded in death by his wife Margaret Ann (Davis) Turrell and twin brother, Ronald Sherman Turrell. He is survived by his sister, Shirley Turrell-Nevada (E. Peter Nevada); children, Pam Turrell of Columbus, Todd Turrell of Naples, Florida and Phil Turrell of Columbus. Additional survivors include nieces, Elizabeth Turrell-Farrar (Jack Farrar) and Sally Hood (Henry Hood). He is also survived by sister-in-law, Johanna "Tommie" Turrell and great nieces and nephews, Meg and Bill Farrar and Emma and Sam Hood. Funeral Arrangements for the immediate family, will be with SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road. There will be no visiting hours. On Saturday, April 11th, 2015 at 11:00 a Memorial Service will be conducted at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 2070 Ridgecliff Road in Upper Arlington. Family members will welcome Dr. Bob's many friends and colleagues for a Celebration of his life.
