

Colonel Robert J. Yuhas, age 87, of Upper Arlington, Ohio died at home with his family Friday, February 1st, 2019. Colonel Yuhas was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Rose Yuhas, brother David, two young uncles with whom he was raised, John E. Yuhas and Robert L. Yuhas. He is survived by his loving and patient wife of 64 years, Lucille Rhodes Yuhas, his four sons, Bruce (Hannah), Brian (Amy). Mark, Jeffery (Kerry), and six grandchildren, Riley, Kacy, Gabriel, Timothy, Taylor and Kyle.
Col. Yuhas, born April 14, 1931 was raised in Leavittsburg, Ohio, graduated from Warren Township High School (Leavittsburg) and Youngstown College now Youngstown State University where he played basketball on a scholarship. He entered the Army as a ROTC DMG and served 30 years of active Federal service. He had overseas tours of duty in Germany, Vietnam (2) and Saudi Arabia as well as several assignments within the United States. He received several awards for his service among them the Defense Superior Service Award, the Legion of Merit, and the Bronze Star. He was most proud of his service with young soldiers as a Battery Commander, a Company Commander and a Battalion Commander. After retiring from the Army he worked in the Prison Industries within the Ohio Department of Rehabilitations and Corrections.
Robert enjoyed fishing, tinkering in his workshop, going to OSU basketball games with his buddy Mike Lucas, and especially enjoyed watching his grandkids play sports. Football, lacrosse, soccer and baseball were all on the schedule. He was so proud of their athletic and academic accomplishments. Robert loved spending time with his family and grandkids. Tough and generous, supportive and encouraging, and always had a good story to share.
There will be a Celebration of Life service at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, Upper Arlington at 4 PM on Thursday February 7, 2019, with a reception to follow until 7 PM. Interment will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
Family would like to thank the Kobacker House / Ohio Health Hospice and their amazing representatives Matt, Jessica and Zach (Chaplain). They were a pleasure to work with and a comfort to the family.
