Roger Lee Curry, Sr., age 79, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 30, 2024, surrounded by family. Roger was born in Logan, West Virginia on September 14, 1944, to the late Frank and Venila (Baisden) Curry. Also preceding in death were his granddaughter Megan Rose Curry and 10 siblings. Roger was the youngest of 11 children. He was a graduate of Berea College, and during college Roger married the love of his life, Emily Jane (Fugitt) Curry on June 5, 1966 at Franklin Avenue Methodist Church in Portsmouth, Ohio. Roger loved to travel the world with Jane, but most of all loved his vacations to the coast of Maine and Daytona Beach with his family. He was an avid gardener, dog walker, bird lover, and expert baker. Roger had multiple careers, first in hospitality management and later teaching culinary arts. Post-retirement, he began a new career with Safelite Auto Glass as a Customer Care Coordinator, where he was recently awarded the coveted Safelite Spirit Award, awarded to less than 1% of employees. Roger was longtime member of Northwest United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir for over 30 years. His service to the church also included teaching Disciple Bible study and serving meals at Faith Mission. Additionally, Roger was a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America, and served in numerous other community service positions. Roger had a passion for giving, sponsoring five children through Compassion International. His final act of service was a gift of sight to the Central Ohio Lions Eye Bank. Roger was a member of the Ohio Nut Growers Association (ONGA), twice serving as the organization’s President, and the Metropolitan Columbus Day Lily Society. Roger will be deeply missed by Jane, his loving wife of 58 years; son Captain Roger (Heather) Curry, Jr., USN (Ret.); son Charles Curry; daughter Angela Curry; grandchildren Lieutenant Sean (Meara) Curry, USN and Robert Curry. Roger was loved and adored by his numerous nieces and nephews. Celebration of Roger’s Life will take place at 11:00am on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Northwest United Methodist Church, 5200 Riverside Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43220, where a luncheon will be served immediately following the service.
