

Ronald Allen Tippett, 70, of Columbus, passed away at Grant Medical Center on January 7, 2020. Ron was born on December 29, 1949 in Columbus to the late James Edward and Mary Catherine (Sullivan) Tippett, Sr. In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his sister Mary Catherine White and brother-in-law Jim Delozier.
Surviving Ron is his wife of 49 years, whom he met when they both attended DeSales High School, graduates of 1968, Patricia Susan (Foresta) Tippett. Additionally, he is survived by his children Amey (Scott) Burkhart and Tim (Melissa) Tippett; grandchildren Noah and Maggie Burkhart, and Mason, Gavin, and Parker Tippett; siblings Jim (Peggy) Tippett, Susan Delozier, Nancy (Harry) Kirtley, Mike (Jamie) Tippett; a brother-in-law David (Charlotte) Foresta; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his loving companion daschund, Pumpkin Pie.
Ron enlisted in the US Navy after high school and served four years during the Vietnam War on both the USS Boxer and Graham County as an interior communication specialist. After his honorable discharge, he embarked on a 37 ½ year career with Ohio Bell until his retirement.
His memberships included St. Matthias church, since the age of 12, where he was also a Boy Scout in Troop 310. He also served Troop and Pack 423 as both Scout and Cub Master, as well as Troop 314 of St. James the Lessor. He earned both a Silver Beaver and Bronze Pelican award.
He and Pat were avid travelers in the US and abroad, and especially loved cruises, both on rivers and at sea. Another hobby included woodworking. He made gifts for his grandchildren which included cradles, tractors, and hobby horses.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 10, 2020 from 3-5 and 7-9 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd., Gahanna. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 10AM at St. Matthias Church, 1582 Ferris Rd, Columbus. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Ron held dear to his heart the Telephone Pioneers. The family asks that donations be made to this organization in lieu of flowers.
