Rose was born December 20, 1929 in Youngstown, Ohio to the late Dominic and Mary Dundee. At a young age, Rose began working at Dutch Farms where she would meet and marry the love of her life, Andy Russ. Andy and Rose would go on to have two children, a daughter, Cynthia and a son, Andy J. To have Rose as a mother was truly a blessing from childhood to adulthood. She always went above and beyond to make holidays extra special or to partake in all her children's school/life events. Nothing brought her more joy than to give rather than receive and she passed this quality onto her children throughout their lives.
In 2003 Rose and Andy would eventually find themselves deciding to make the move from the Austintown, Ohio area to Columbus, Ohio to be near and live with their son, Andy. Rose and Andy built a happy life together in the Columbus area. They enjoyed filling their evenings by playing bingo and socializing at various churches where they made numerous friends. Rose and Andy were married for 62 wonderful years until Andy's untimely passing in 2013.
Everyone knew the apple of Rose's eye were her grandchildren John and Kristan. She enjoyed every minute helping in the raising and caregiving of them during their younger years whenever needed. She was a very hands on grandparent who enjoyed being involved and attending everything her grandchildren were involved in. You could always count on Rose to be in the front row or on the sidelines cheering them on. Everyone knew and loved Grandma Rose.
She was blessed to become a great-grandmother three times to her grandson John and wife Maria's three daughters, Fotini, Sophia, and Anna, whom she referred to as her angels. They brought much joy to her during her later years. She loved going to the Ohio State Fair with her family and prided herself in always winning each of her great-granddaughters a choice prize at the Guess Your Age Game by stumping the guesser because of her youthful appearance.
Rose will be remembered most for being a "people person." She had a kind heart, and a way about her that drew people in. She genuinely made friends of almost everyone she met because of her easy-going nature and willingness to listen rather than judge people for who they were. She was a woman of great faith, who prayed the rosary nightly and kept a list of names for those she faithfully prayed for whenever she knew they needed prayer.
Rose was a wonderful cook and especially enjoyed making pizza with her "magic dough" recipe that only she knew, throwing in a little of this and a little of that. She was a lover of music and had a beautiful voice. Rose was a woman of impeccable style and taste. There was never an occasion she was not dressed up for. Even the grocery store was a reason to make a fashion statement. Quite the shopper, if you could not find Rose in a store, you could likely find her in the make-up aisle adding to her endless collection of cosmetics. She loved to travel and enjoyed her numerous trips spending time at her son's condo on the beach in Florida and the family's yearly vacation get together there as well.
Rose is survived by her daughter, Cynthia (John) Belak, son Andy J Russ, Grandson, John J (Maria) Belak, Granddaughter Kristan M (Nick) Maglis and her three beautiful great-granddaughters Fotini, Sophia and Anna Belak, and several nieces and nephews whom she loved. Besides her parents, Rose was preceded in death by her husband Andy, and her siblings, Nick Dundee, Antionette Hudzik, Frank Dundee, and Katherine Vaccaro.
The family would like to especially thank Michele Schweiss, Rose's longtime caregiver/companion for her unending dedication and loving devotion she gave to Rose on a daily basis.
Arrangements have been entrusted to SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST FUNERAL HOME, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd., Gahanna. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, January 25 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Reverend Vincent Nguyen to officiate. Entombment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
