

Rosemary Daniel Butzer, age 82, passed away peacefully at Mt. Carmel East Hospital on July 26, 2021. She was born on May 28, 1939 in Willard, Ohio. Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents, Dolores and Cornelius Daniel; brothers, Donald and Robert; and sister, Jean. She is survived by George, her husband of 58 years; her sons, Daniel Joseph of Nashville, Tennessee and Dane Charles of Columbus, Ohio; and grandsons, Anthony Joseph and Samuel Taylor.
Rosemary graduated from Mercy College and The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master's Degree in Education. She worked as a pediatric hospital nurse, a clinical instructor, and a school nurse. In 1982, together with her family and friends she started the first Academic Boosters in Pickerington which spread throughout Ohio and to other states. The organization promoted increased emphasis on academics, especially math, science, and technology.
At age 50, Rosemary returned to Ohio State and completed a three year program in School Psychology. She developed and implemented the first Early Childhood School Psychology Program in the Knox County Schools. She retired from that position in 2001. That was her favorite career.
Rosemary was a Life Member of The Ohio State University Alumni Association, a Life Member of the OSU College of Nursing Alumni Association, and a Perpetual Member of the Mercy College Alumni Association. In 2011, she was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award by Mercy College in recognition of her professional and personal achievements.
She completed over 50 oil paintings, including three promoting awareness of ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Rosemary was an advocate for ALS patients, research for the cure, and specialized ALS facilities.
Rosemary's family will receive friends from 5-8pm on Monday, August 2, 2021 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST, 1051 E Johnstown Rd, Gahanna. Mass of Christian Burial at Church of The Resurrection, 6300 Dublin Granville Road, New Albany on Tuesday, August 3 at 11am. Interment to follow at Maplewood Cemetery in New Albany. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS Residence Initiative with checks made out to the Chelsea Jewish Foundation, Leonard Florence Center for Living, 165 Captains Row, Chelsea, MA 02150.
