Russell G. Basnett, age 73, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at Grant Hospital. Russ was born on April 16, 1953 in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Dorsey and Annabell Basnett. He was a proud United States Army veteran who dedicated many years of his life to working as a mechanic. Russell was a hardworking man with a big heart and a big personality. He enjoyed working on cars with his sons, drinking his coffee, and cutting the neighbors' grass. He was always full of energy and never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, especially his family and the people he loved. His kindness, generosity, strong work ethic, and willingness to help others were just a few of the things that made him so special. He found joy in the simple things in life and took pride in being there for his people. Preceded in death by his parents, Dorsey and Annabell, and his sister, Jeanette. Survived by his wife, Cheryl Kenyon; sons, Steven and Jacob Basnett; Russell Jr., Jonathan, Teela Basnett and Charles Joseph “CJ” Fisher; several grandchildren; sister, Juanita; many nieces, nephews and neighbors. A memorial gathering will be held on Monday, November 9, 2026, from 5-7:00 pm at Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services by Schoedinger Hilltop, 3030 W. Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43204.
