Ruth Ann Robbins went to be with her Savior and Lord on 21-Oct-2020, victim of four assaults: death of a son, emergency surgery, COVID-19, and lymphoma. Any one of them she could have withstood. Together they were too much. Ruth, born 21-Jul-1939, was the eldest of two daughters born to Ruth Long Weisenstine and Loren Weisenstine in Cambridge, OH. Her parents, her younger sister, Carol, and her second son, Ron, have preceded her in death. Ruth begot two sons, Randall and Ronald Hannon, and two daughters, Hope Shomer and Teresa Collins. Her children have blessed her with four grandchildren, Ashley, Loren, Travis, and Coleton, and three great-grandchildren, Carmine, Wayland, and Faith. There is also son-in-law, Kenny Colgin, for whom Ruth will always be his "Momma." Ruth worked at the Western Electric/ATandT/Lucent plant on the east side of Columbus for 31 year, retiring in 1998. She worked as both an hourly and salaried employee. When she was doing quality assurance work on the wiring frames, her motto was "do it right or do it again!" In 1981 at a planning meeting for a small singles group that was forming at Peace Lutheran Church, a young man, far too young for her and with a piece of broccoli stuck in his teeth, sat next to her on the stairs serendipitously. By "1-2-3" (Jan. 1, 1983) he had convinced her to try marriage again and that it might be okay to have a husband nine and a half years her junior. Such was the beginning of her almost 38 year marriage to Alan P. W. Hewett. They traveled the world together and have friends across the oceans. They loved their animals and have a pet cemetery at The Refuge, their hideaway in the woods. Life would not be right without furry and feathered friends all about. Ruth was the lucid, insightful and witty editor of the annual "Christmas Tome". They have been blessed by their faithful congregation at Peace Lutheran Church, Gahanna, OH and been a blessing to it in return. Ruth played hand bells there, recorded services for more than 30 years, turned pages for one of our organists for 12 years, has been president of the congregation, has been involved in many committees including several call committees, and has managed the columbarium and memorial garden where she will now rest. Ruth did not suffer fools, but was a wonderful listener, great at facilitating meetings and keeping them on track. She had strong views politically and was denied the right to vote at her first opportunity because she would not pay the poll tax in Virginia. She always thought she was the perfect example of "average" and had to be told time and again that this exceptional woman was anything but average. Her devoted small groups have supported her and Alan through this recent event, ever loving and available to help. Ruth was a lover of crochet, sewing, quilting and crafts in general and a member of the Oakhaven Garden Club of Gahanna. Garage sales and thrift stores were irresistible to Ruth. Schoedinger Funeral Services is handling the arrangements. If you desire to donate in Ruth's memory, please direct your donations to Peace Lutheran Church, 455 Clark State Rd, Gahanna, OH, specifically to the Endowment Fund or the Memorial Garden. A virtual memorial service is being planned to allow people from around the world to participate without the risk of people gathering and potentially adding to the COVID illnesses and possible deaths. Ruth felt this was only good citizenship. Ruth loved you all too much to have you go through the agony of COVID. To those who know her, raise a toast to her, especially wine, if you like it, smile, laugh, and tell stories as you remember the times you spent with her. She loves you all and waits to meet you again.
