

Sally Sue Hess, 85, of Columbus, passed away at Friendship Village of Columbus on October 19, 2018. Born in Mannington, WV on June 3, 1933, she was preceded in death by her parents Claude and Lona (Halterman) Huey. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Phil Hess, in 2008; son Andy in 2002; and sister Peggy Lough. She is survived by daughter Nancy J. Hess; sons David L. (Daphne) Hess and Joseph M. Hess; grandchildren Eric and Kylie Hess; and her dog Bonnie. Sally graduated from WVU, where she was a member of Alpha Phi sorority, and received her Master's degree from The Ohio State University, where she taught English until 1995. Between colleges she raised her family with her husband in Bexley and New Albany, whom she met at age 12, had her first date with at the All Club dance in 1948, and married in 1955. A prolific letter writer and journalist, she left behind volumes, including correspondences with Phil during his stint in the Navy. She was a member of Mortar Board, active in Jung Group, New Albany Historic Society and Inniswoods Metro Garden. She enjoyed camping and traveling in the U.S. and abroad. A memorial service will be held at Friendship Village, 5800 Forest Hills Blvd., Columbus, on Tuesday, October 23, 2108 at 3PM with visitation beginning at 2PM. Pastor Frank Luchsinger, officiant. Inurnment will take place at Maplewood Cemetery, New Albany, Ohio at a later date.
