As a kid, he ran track at Brewster (NY) High School. After high school, he worked as a machine operator at General Electric’s airplane engine factory in Bridgeport, CT before joining the Army in 1944. He served in the China-Burma-India Theater during World War II, where he was a Staff Sergeant at the same time that four of his brothers were in military service.
Soon after he was discharged in 1946, dad married his neighborhood sweetie, Angela (nee Guarcello), and they celebrated their 75th anniversary last December. After working for a cosmetic case manufacturer, he loaded and unloaded rail cars, and started his construction career as a laborer. He and his father and brother launched Piazza & Company, a metal lathing contractor, in 1953. Thirty-six years later, in 1989, he retired. In his “spare time” he was a home builder – even doll houses for his grand-daughters – and we lived in homes that he either built or renovated. He was confident, reliable, and an exceptional planner.
Dad suffered the loss of his wife, Angela in June 2022, his son, Paul, in 2013, and in prior years, his parents and siblings. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law: Sal, Jr. and Laura in Ohio, Judi in New Jersey, Michael and Debbie in New York, and Robert and Linda in Virginia, as well as his nine grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.
Indelibly committed to his family, he sat at the head of our dinner table every single night as we were
growing up. He played cards with neighborhood friends, and bowled in a Monday night league, and was
generous with his skills and time for us, his extended family, and neighbors. He was a provider, and
above all, he raised us to be family men.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, December 10th, from 10AM-11AM at Christ the King Catholic Church, 2777 E Livingston Ave. A service of Christian burial to follow at 11AM. Burial will take place immediately following the service at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Saint Joseph Cemetery, 6440 S. High St., Lockbourne, OH.
In lieu of flowers, visitation, or donations, please fondly remember our dad by spending time with, and donating your skills to the people in your lives.
