I am so sorry for your loss. May the outpouring of sympathy, the kind acts of friends and strangers, as well as your memories give you comfort to help you endure the days ahead. We were so surprised and saddened to learn of Sam's passing.  Both of us worked with Sam at Columbus GHQ for years and shared many, many good times.  His wonderful personality and unmatched sense of humor will be greatly missed.

Sam was the last of the three most humorous men ever to wear the black and gray.  I would always try to sit within earshot of Mike Megison, KO Martin and him in the cafe at the academy.  They would make us laugh until we hurt.  No matter how bad a day you were having, Sam could make you smile.  Sam has joined Megi and KO in heaven making everyone laugh.  It was a pleasure to know him.   I am sure he will be missed by his family and all.  Sam, you made a difference......

I came to know Sam when he married my dear friend, Becky.  Through the years we spent a lot of time together, laughing, sometimes disagreeing - but always with great respect.  He was a gentleman, a patient man, intelligent, and caring.  I will miss Sam's smile, and his sense of humor.

When I picture Uncle Sam in my mind, he is goofing around with a big smile on his face. He had that wicked 'Hamblin' sense of humor that I adore. He was so much fun to be around and always had a ready smile and joke for his nieces and nephews. He will be missed terribly, but remembered with an amazing amount of fondness.

I had the honor and privilege to work with Sam from 1985-92 when I was the Assistant Attorney General and General Counsel assigned to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. I knew Sam as a conscientious, honorable law enforcement officer with a terrific sense of humor and a larger than life personality! My deepest condolences to his family, friends. colleagues and all those who knew him.  He was admired, respected and loved by all that had the privilege of knowing him.

Sam Hamblin. He was one of the guys you looked up to if you wanted to be a trooper or other law enforcment officer. He was a "tough but fair" old school guy who went out and did his job and would be the first to tell you what he thought and the first to help you out.
I remember his crash the night a drunk hit him head on on 23 near Circleville. He was just trying to get to the guy before he could hurt an innocent civilian or family. That was one bad crash.
He was very proud of his daughter and I will bet he was a very good grandpa.
Thanks for having the courage to send Sam out at night to help make sure Ohio's highways were a safer place for other families. He will be missed. You jsut had to say "Sam Hamblin" and guys would say they knew who that patrolman was.
