

A Celebration of Life Service for Samuel “Sammy” L. Hayes, 68 of Newark, will be held on Friday, November 19, 2010 at 1:00 PM at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 383 Washington Street, Newark, with Rev. Dr. Charles W. Noble, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Sammy was born Tula, Mississippi on August 10, 1942 to the late John and Geneva (Robinson) Hayes. He went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 15, 2010 at the Specialty Select Hospital in Columbus.
Prior to retirement, he was an automobile detailer. He was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, cooking and barbequing. He also enjoyed watching college football, especially cheering on the Michigan Wolverines. Most important in his life was spending time with his loving wife, Mary and the family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Mary (Williams) Hayes, whom he married on June 9, 1974; four children, Samuel Jr., Sandra, Isaac and Irdious; three grandchildren, Asia, Iisha, and Sherrice; one great grandchild, Amara; brothers and sisters, Ned, M.C., Bertha, Johnnie and Wilma; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother, Warren.
Family and friends may call at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Home, 179 Granville Street, Newark on Thursday from 5:00-8:00 PM.
