Shirley Elnora Berens

Shirley Elnora Berens, 88 of Columbus, passed away on September 15, 2023. Shirley was born in Lawrenceville, Illinois, to Bernard and Isabelle Ravellette. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Joseph Berens; both parents; older sister; and grandson Drew Berens. Shirley, a registered nurse, settled in Columbus with her husband in the early 1960s and is survived by three sons: Michael, Matthew and Mark. Family was always first; education for her children was a priority. Devoutly religious, Shirley spearheaded church-sponsored luncheons, fundraisers and social activities for seniors, among many activities. An avid gardener and cook, she transformed her backyard into a private sanctuary brimming with vegetables and flowers. She will be greatly missed by her three sons; daughters-in-law Ronda and Lisa; and four grandchildren: Shawn; Lindsey; Ben and Jack. The family is planning a private memorial.
