

Shirley J. Keefer, 90, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2024, under the loving care of Summit Hospice. Born on August 18, 1934, in Portsmouth, Ohio, to the late Roy and Virginia York Cropper, Shirley is now reunited with her beloved husband of 47 years, Thomas L. Keefer.
Shirley’s greatest joy in life was her family. She cherished her children and her love for her grandchildren knew no bounds. She adored them all deeply and took immense pride in watching them grow and thrive. A second mother to many of her children’s friends, Shirley opened her heart and home to countless young people over the years. Her nurturing spirit and warm presence touched the lives of everyone who knew her. Shirley was also a devoted dog lover, and her dogs brought her much comfort and joy throughout her life.

Professionally, Shirley worked as an administrative assistant to the director of the Riverside Hospital pharmacy for 15 years and spent many more years at the Golden Hobby Shop. She loved meeting new people and building connections with those who visited. She was an avid painter and crafter, and her creations were a reflection of her loving, creative nature. Though her health eventually made it difficult for her to continue these passions, her love for the arts remained a cherished part of who she was.
Shirley is survived by her children Kathy Meurell, Thomas Keefer, and Karen (Greg) Annis; her grandchildren Alex Meurell, Ben (Jessica) Meurell, Taylor (Devon) Marcum, and Riley Annis; her sisters-in-law Sue Cropper and Suzette Keefer; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom were dear to her heart.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Keefer; her parents, Roy and Virginia York Cropper; her brother Richard Cropper; and her grandparents.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Advantage by Schoedinger North, 5554 Karl Road, Columbus, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 AM on Friday, December 6, 2024, at St. Josephine Bakhita Parish, 6077 Sharon Woods Blvd, Columbus. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
