

Shirley Jean Zirwas, age 70, was welcomed into heaven on November 12, 2013. Her loving husband and children surrounded her. Shirley was born on February 10, 1943 in Heidelberg, Pennsylvania to the late Baldo and Hazel Iorio. She married Thomas Zirwas on January 19, 1963 and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past January. Her husband, Tom survives her as well as her children, Marsha, wife of Michael Wiesenbach, Johnstown PA; Michael, husband of Brenda, Torrey UT, and Matthew, husband of Jill, Columbus, OH. In addition, she had 4 grandchildren she adored – Seth Wiesenbach, a sophomore at Drexel University; Ben Wiesenbach, a junior at Westmont High in Johnstown, PA and Margaret and Susannah Zirwas, elementary students at Cassingham Elementary in Bexley, OH. Shirely, is also survived by her brother Ron, husband of Steffanie in Pittsburgh, PA, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Shirley and Tom raised their children in Western Pennsylvania and later moved to Columbus, OH. Shirley and Tom were snowbirds in their later years and had a home in Venice, FL where they enjoyed bicycling and walking on the beach collecting sharks teeth. While living in Columbus, Shirley enjoyed golfing, playing cards and traveling with her friends. Shirley leaves behind many friends who have fond memories of her. A Memorial Mass will be held for Shirley at 10:30am Monday, November 18, 2013 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1051 S. Waggoner Rd., Reynoldsburg, OH 43068 where family will welcome friends beginning at 9:45am; Msgr. David Funk, Celebrant. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in memory of Shirley to either the Mt. Carmel Foundation or St. Pius X Catholic Church. Her family would like to thank all of those who were involved in her care, especially her friend Bev Wood, Mt. Carmel Hospice and Home Instead Nursing. Cremation services entrusted to Schoedinger East Chapel.
