

Stanley B. Korpieski, “Stan”, 88, died peacefully on November 17, 2013 at Mount Carmel East Hospital. Stanley was born on August 2, 1925 in Bexley, Ohio to the late Bernard and Dominica Korpieski. Stanley retired from the Columbus Fire Department in January 1978, after 20 years of service. Among many duties he worked on the Emergency Squad and proudly served on one of the first Heart Mobile units in the Columbus area. Stanley was a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign War, serving the Paul S. Lawrence Post as a member of the Color Guard. He was a Sr. Vice Commander (86-87) and Post Commander (87-88). Stanley moved his family to Gahanna, Ohio in 1962, where he resided until his death. He was one of the earliest members of St. Matthew Catholic Church, Gahanna, Ohio. In addition to his parents, Stanley is preceded in death by his wife, Helen, of 51 years; brother Joseph; sisters Irene (Eddie) Guzik, Mary (Jimmy) James; and brother-in-law Carl Guzzo. Stanley will be greatly missed by his sons, David (Kathleen), Steve (Stephanie); daughter Karen (Rob) Parkinson; brother Leo (Paula); sisters Cecilia Guzzo and Josephine (Dick) Koch; great-grandchildren Amy, Kristine (Sean), Silas, Shelly (Tim), Laura (Steve) and Russell; and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Schoedinger Northeast Chapel, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd in Gahanna. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, November 21, 2013 at St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church, 807 Havens Corners Road in Gahanna. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Carmel Hospice, c/o Mt. Carmel Foundation, 6150 E. Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43213-9924 in his memory.
