Susan Shu-Chen Lee passed peacefully and suddenly at home on November 9, 2025, a couple weeks short of her 90th birthday. Services will be Friday November 21 at Schoedinger Northwest, 1740 Zollinger Road, Columbus OH 43221. Service will be at 1p, followed immediately by a reception until 5p. Susan lived a life full of creative generosity to her community. The oldest of 8, and daughter of a train conductor, her diligent study led to being a well-loved and respected teacher in Taiwan. Susan and her husband Arthur Chiu-Jong Lee were among the early wave of student immigrants to the United States in the 1960’s, bringing their toddler children to the Ohio State University in Columbus, where Arthur completed his doctorate and Susan raised a family of three children. They were active members of Indianola Presbyterian Church. Susan provided in-home childcare, sewed drapery, and eventually worked as a lab technician until retiring. She had a green thumb and often gave her Asian vegetables to family and friends, after canning and freezing the bounty from her garden. Susan loved all manner of craft and was skillful in sewing suits for Arthur and herself, making cushions and drapery for their home, chemo caps for The James Cancer Center, greeting cards for all. In retirement, she and Arthur delighted in traveling the world. They celebrated 63 years of marriage before Arthur passed in November 2023. Both of them were proudly active in the Taiwanese American community, locally and nationally, where they made many lasting friendships. Since learning of her death, many of Susan’s friends have lovingly reached out with remembrances of times when she shared her gifts with the community. Susan is survived by three children and their spouses (Yasyn Lee and Mark Niemer, Andy Lee and Brenda Evans, Adams and Jody Lee), and 6 grandchildren (Liz, Matt, Harrison, Ben, Colson, and Oliver). Susan will be sadly missed by all.
Funeral Service will be held at 1 PM on on Friday, November 21, 2025 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST, at 1740 Zollinger Road, Columbus, OH, 43221, where a Visitation will be held after the service until 5 PM.
